So yea I tried working for the evil mega media corporation The SF Weakly is owned by Village Voice Media They are the carpet bagging deep pocket company that buys small time papers and kills them dead An old friend works there, asked me if I'd do a column I was super positive Always aiming to please Cheerful Obedient I would only spend 1 hour or less on writing the column More like 20 minutes They didn't have the time of day for me The editors were slammed Super buzy Working like 12 hour days, tons of problems The corporate level people wanted hipster foodie fixed gear ghetto chic I knew it wouldn't last long And why should it? Why would anyone reading the SF Weakly wanna read my random thoughts and virtual about selling public space? Huh Why would they?

It got me thinking long and hard The city has changed The mood of the city Have we turned into San Fransandiego? The progressive ideology has been replaced with 7X7 magazine philosophy Everyone I know is becoming a food snob Wine snob Did I just not ever notice how rich everyone is? Prop L, the Sitting or Laying on the sidewalk law passed How is that possible? We put legislation on the ballot to re-name a sewage treatment plant the George W Bush memorial sewage treatment plant Got it on the ballot Got 22% for, 78% against Is the idea of San Francisco changing? Are we becoming more like the Gavin Newscums of the world? Where we look like liberals but we are really narrow-minded selfish creeps when it comes time to make hard choices? Are we just too buzy to care about how our city is run or who is running it or what they are doing as long as it doesn't de-value our properties?

I don't believe it I think we are just in a lull I think that Prop L was bad legislation, but I see that people voting for it meant that people were ready for change Real change Change can be uncomfortable Odd Weird But I think that we as a city are seeing some big changes around here Like one is that our Board of Supervisors and our Mayor aren't at each other's throats Is that they way this is supposed to work? Does that mean we will save money or spend more? Is that like, ummm efficient dysfunction? Like really bad ideas are going to be executed swiftly with no detractors? It's confusing I can't help but think how different things would be if Matt Gonzales beat Newsom 7 years ago And how guilty I feel for not helping I believed at that time that politics was a red herring That politics divide people, and art brings people together I threw that out the window 4 years later If you need a ruler in which to measure with, the 11,000 and change votes I got runn ing for mayor would have changed the outcome in the Newsom vs Gonzales race The shame, the shame

But boy is it true Politics divides people Every time All the time But we have to show up We can't just sit back and let people get away with fucking us over So the park issue is a hot one And so what if the boring sensationalist stick in the mud writer for the lame, broke newspaper makes me look like a hysterical idiot I make it so easy

And the there is always the "neutral" civic minded do nothing who doesn't really have an opinion because he is neutral like Canada, (and just as boring); Dolores Park Works Which is just a guy and a computer although you'd think that it was a group of 500 people appointed to commissions you've never heard of He even writes 'we' when he talks about 'him' People get into the fiefdom trap even when they have no land, it's sad here is their commercial for stores in the park (remember, DPW is neutral)

It's like it's all fixed Fucking rigged I find it offensive that they wanna put a restaurant IN the park On parkland Don't they like a park just being well a park? How can it be OK to allow RPD to say that DP is a potential "profit center" It's public space Now it's gonna be more garbage, stinky generators and so on And privatization wins the day Another chip dinged out of the space allotted to us that was outside of commerce Can we just do nothing? Can we have no response? Don't you want to show up, show that at least some people thought this was a bad idea? That when the fixer people do shit like this, there is at least some opposition? That there is a least someone who noticed?

Me? I'm sick to my stomach The privatization of our public space makes me wanna puke How about you?

On Saturday April 23rd, La Couchina is gonna open a mobile restaurant powered by a generator in Dolores Park How do you feel about that? If you don't like it, there isn't really much you can do

We are also of a mind to show the people of the park that privatization of public space is a bad idea by visiting the trailer at 2:00 on Saturday the 23rd to tell them that commercial entities in the park make us kinda sick Wouldn't' that be weird if we all just got sick, right there on the ground in front of their trailer? How many taco's would they sell then? Just to make a point, we'll have a "Puke In" And that's exactly what will happen If we fill DP with puke, the trailer will just float away down to Hunters' Point OK, you don't have to puke if you don't want to, but there are a core number of us willing to do what is needed to get the newspapers there and make our point That RPD and the privatization of our parks is enough to turn your stomach

We need to take back our parks

Save the date If you are of a mind, sign the petition And although our city has changed, and will always be in flux we are not wrong on this issue There doesn't need to be a store on every square foot of ground And commissioners are supposed to enact the will of the people And no matter what, we have to show up We have to do something
