I think sometimes of the good that MDMA can do, and has done, for people I love and for humanity in general
 Probably this is the case for you, too
 I've seen people confront old and deep emotional injuries, learn to trust themselves, learn to be happy - you probably have your own such stories


As you probably know, nearly all the modern psychedelics were invented by one man - Sasha Shulgin
 You can read his story as he and his wife Ann wrote it, in their books, PiHKAL and TiHKAL, or any of the dozens of other books about him
 He didn't invent MDMA, but did 'rediscover' it, and develop MDA, MDEA, DOM, 2CB, 2CI, and many others, as well as bioassay (self-test) them to ensure their safety and determine their effects
 They would not exist, for anyone, without him
 And this is leaving aside his contributions to biochemistry in general

Sasha has also donated countless pieces of autographed glassware from his lab, immortalized in Eric Davis' fantastic photos, to raise money for MAPS projects
 (MAPS is the non-profit that is working on legalization of MDMA and making tremendous strides in treatment of PTSD and end-of-life anxiety in cancer patients
 They work daily to make these medicines legal and to promote research into their effects on the mind and heart
) There is an effort on to transcribe his research notebooks - a project undertaken by Erowid, an organization that provides safe & true cutting edge information about drugs


He devoted his life to designing these drugs and investigating the mind, and was never wealthy
 He bore the brunt, emotional and financial, of government repudiation of psychedelics - he stood out, unrepentantly, and said what he thought, and kept working (that story is told in TiHKAL)
 And he's a witty and charming man, full of whimsy and smarts
 Imagine the bay area, burning man, ecstatic dance, without him
 His is a life that has made ours immeasurably better
