Who are the young ones doing shows now? As we all get older and all, do you ever wonder if our city of Art and Innovation will become just another strip mall of bread-bowl tourists with corrupt politicians? Do you fear that it will be too expensive for young bucks to come and make a name for themselves with all the billionaires kicking out all the millionaires? Do you fear that because you don’t know the young ones, can’t see them, aren’t on their mailing lists…. that they might not exist?

Are you ready to help out some young ones?

Here they are:

What are they doing? They are doing shit. Great theatre. On a shoestring. In tiny theatres. With cardboard props. All heats. These are the guys that play their guts out even when no one is looking…

They have a brand new, original show from a new young writer. It's a great script and everyone involved, from the cast to the designers and original music are all brilliant. They even had Mr. Steffanos X build our set. Here's the spiel... "Nikita Schoen's LEFT-HANDED DARLING is set in the rural 1930's American "Dust Bowl era" and centers on Calliope Darling, a young girl with a very unusual upbringing and a unique sense of beauty. Have her very unlikely parents prepared her well for the world? Calliope and the audience are transported from the macabre environment of her family's home to the surreality of a carnival sideshow, an equally bizarre court room, and more strange sights and sounds than the many many books she has read in her young life could prepare her for. With creative staging, a versatile cast, theatrical puppetry, original music, and a lot of mason jars, LEFT-HANDED DARLING will thrill you, surprise you, make you laugh and transport you back to a colorful era when Vaudeville ruled and a nickel was really worth something."

It'd definitely inspired by Tod Browning's Freaks, and it's a proper twisted tragedy with shades of Creepshow or Twilight Zone in amidst the awesome freakshow scene. Here are a few pix of set and stuff, including Doctor of Fobidden Science David Apocalypse's on-loan oddities in our lobby display...

You should go to this play.

tickets are here: http://brownpapertickets.com/event/177619

But if you can’t go, you can still help out. Peel off $10 and help their kickstart thing. I wish we had kickstarter when I was doing projects like this, we would have been able to have food. For ten bucks, you can be an owner of this play, champion our city, save the farm and relax knowing that the young ones are doing a great job of stewarding the ideas that you worked so hard to create. Lets all do a little maintenance.

I’m in for $20 for Left Handed Darling. Join me. The thing ends in 2 friggin’ hours….

This email lists is that of Showman Chicken John of San Francisco. You can keep up with his shenanigans and shows by being on this list. He also sends out some personal writing and such. He posts a few times a week at most. You sound much more important when you speak about yourself in the 3rd person. At least I do when I talk about me as 'him'.
